who's behind the screen?
Hey there! Nice to meet you, I'm Alliaura! A graphic designer specializing in advertising and branding.
I'll keep an eye out for your name in my inbox!
once upon a time
As a kid, the thought of doing the same 9-to-5 job for the rest of my life sounded incredibly daunting. In fact, I couldn't understand what "finding a job I'd enjoy" really meant because I was a jack of all trades, but I simply didn't enjoy any of my hobbies enough to commit my dying breath to them.
Looking back, however, the signs were always there. In elementary school, I was that artsy, poster kid who made all the holiday dance posters you'd see in the hallways. Yet, it wasn't until middle school when my best friend at the time jokingly said, "Every night I pray that you become a graphic designer." I didn't even know what that was at the time, so it was just a statement I laughed off.
My real introduction to the field happened in the first semester of 10th grade, when my boyfriend at the time was put into a communications technology course. He didn't enjoy it, but he was confident I would. Sure enough, once second semester rolled around, Communications Technology easily became my favourite subject, and Mr. Gilmor became my favourite teacher.
Then on, it's always felt like my calling (I know, corny) but throughout my entire design journey, there has never been a single assignment I truly disliked. As I high school went on, marketing my high school's music program at my grade 11 open house made me realize how much I thrived in social, fast-paced environments. That experience is exactly what led me to look into advertising.
So, when it finally came time to apply for post-secondary, I knew without a doubt I wanted to go into advertising and graphic design. Now I'm in my second year of the Advertising and Graphic Design program at Humber Polytechnic College, and I've officially found my niche in branding and marketing.
